WHAT'S UP AT JOY BOMB?

Each month Joy Bomb hosts a number of recurring events that are free and open to the public. These include our open mic night, Care & Share (mutual aid), and board game nights.  Follow our calendar for those events and many more!!

We want friends and neighbors to have the chance to host their own events as well. If you have a movie you would like to show, a skill you would like to share, or a potluck you want to host, get in touch with us.

Our aim is to infuse our communities with cooperative principles and practices, building solidarity across communities in the process.

Intention

Intention

In action, we host events that meet the needs of our communities, directly, by the members of our varied communities.

Collective
Action

Collective
Action

We seek to nurture communities that currently exist, invite them to co-mingle, and seed the growth of new communities.

Purpose

Purpose

Everything we do is focused on empowering each of us to live more free and meaningful lives together, here-and-now.

What separates Joy Bomb from a library, a coffee shop, a community center, a venue, or even a church?

Great question! While our activities might look very similar to any one of these spaces, it is radically different. We go to great lengths to encourage people to encounter one another in a new way. Without the exchange of money (other than shows!), as equals, not as boss-employee, priest-parishioner, or as professional-layperson. Joy Bomb is a "house of the people", your community's living room. We invite you to benefit and to be benefited by the power of your community in action!

Joy Bomb is "a world where many worlds fit".

How is Joy Bomb organized and run?

Joy Bomb is organized using a governance system called sociocracy. It is a framework for the conscious, collective, non-hierarchical distribution of authority, decision making power, and operational tasks necessary to running Joy Bomb. Sociocracy allows us to ensure the highest level of participation, transparency, and engagement from the highest number of people who wish to be members of Joy Bomb. Meeting facilitation of circles are run according to sociocratic methods including the use of agendas, rounds, and consent. Some of the basic principles of sociocracy include:

  1. Organization/formality is how you prevent people from gaining power and holding people accountable as a group

  2. Each person’s voice matters

  3. Listening is as important as sharing perspective

  4. Each person has a wealth of abilities, networks, and resources.

Share Time

Along with sharing skills and sharing resources, sharing your time is just as important to helping Joy Bomb become something special. Being present at events, offering ideas for making the project more vibrant, and spending time with your neighbors is the foundation of a thriving community beyond the  differences separating us.
